8/10/2004: The list that was originally found on this page has been withdrawn for four reasons:
1) the #1 need of the Church in Topeka right now is UNITY in prayer, in presenting Jesus and the message of the Gospel, not an attack on groups that many (but not all) of us percecive to be evil;
2) the false unity created by attacking a common enemy is a poor substitute for true unity;
3) based on the persistent levels of traffic to these "sin business" pages without receiving any comments about them, or hearing from anyone that any church was actually using them for a prayer map, made me suspect that all I was accomplishing was providing free ADVERTISING for these organizations; and
4) the information in this list, which was completed in December 2002 and not updated, had become obsolete.
The original contents of this page are still available. I will provide them to any church, Bible study or prayer group on request.
In labeling a religion "false" in the material below, I apply only the test stated in I John 4: namely, that groups that generally speak the truth about Jesus Christ are Christian and those that misrepresent Christ in some fundamental way are not (though they may call themselves a "Christian" group). Moreover, I note that groups that do not speak the truth about Jesus are motivated by the spirit of "antichrist" (I John 4:3). In Greek, the primary meaning of the prefix "anti-" is "in place of," and any group that does not fundamentally speak the truth about Jesus is necessarily trying to put something else in his place.
All of the groups I deliberately failed to list in my "Prayer List of Topeka Churches" publicly hold forth traditional or official doctrinal positions or teachings which deny one or more of the following: 1) that Jesus is the Son of God; 2) that Jesus is God, one with his Father; 3) that the Christ was truly human, i.e., "came in the flesh;" 4) that Jesus' death was sufficient to save us from our sins or 5) that Jesus was bodily resurrected from the dead. Thus, by the test the Apostle John stated, they are false. If I am in error about the belief of any group, please let me know. < /p>
NOTE that there may also be some churches that were simply not listed in any of the directories or other sources upon which I relied. I do not have perfect knowledge of all of the churches in Topeka. I invite corrections.
In labeling a religion false, I do not intend to make any derogatory statement about its adherents, its members or even its leaders, individually. I certainly do NOT advocate hate or discrimination. I state only that the public teachings of these groups do not agree withe the most basic Biblical teachings about Jesus, and, therefore, must have been inspired by the spirit of "antichrist"--i.e, the spirit that stands falsely in the place of Christ, and desires to replace Christ with something, anything else.
